      <title>First Blog for H4AC 2008</title>
      <link>http://hikeforacure.com/modules/weblog/details.php?blog_id=3</link>
<description>Welcome back to Hike For A Cure. We had an incredible hike in 2007 – participants on the hike doubled from 2006 and contributions almost tripled – to $285K! We were able to fund a number of very promising research projects. The pace of progress in understanding Histiocytosis and developing treatments is very exciting for us.After a few well needed months of rejuvenation we are once again reving up the Hike For A Cure machine. If you are reading this blog you are aware we are on a new website structure. Our webmaster and family friend in Sweden, Mike Karlson, has moved us over to a new package with a few bells and whistles – a nice photo gallery, a blog feature and a calendar for starters. And with the help of Melissa Michaluk at HAA and Michael Hermann (of Nuvation) we expect to be able to leverage the Kintera registration site capabilities even more than last year.We have reached capacity in terms of Curry Village’s (and maybe our) resources, which does allow us to increase our focus more on raising funds. Colleen and I are working with some very motivated friends/volunteers to delegate and streamline registration and logistics this year to help lighten our load a bit. This year, in keeping with a “go green” theme, we will also reduce our printing and mailing activity and rely more on the internet and email. With all this help, Colleen and I have set a real ‘reach-out’ goal for 2008: $500K!! We won’t get there without you!The personal “Hike HQ” capability Kintara, our registration host site, was a huge winner in 2007. Hikers that used this found it significantly helped them in their interaction with potential sponsors. Frankly, Colleen and I did not leverage it ourselves in 2007 – and lost our position as ‘top fund raisers’ to more internet savvy hikers. “Never again!” we have vowed. Our Hike for a Cure kickoff night at Stanford’s Children’s Hospital in June 2007 was a lot of fun and a great success. We will do it again this year. If you live in Southern California or are just hanging out at Disneyland June 20th please join us in Santa Ana for the 2008 Kickoff Reception. Details can be found here. It is a great way to meet other families struggling with histiocytosis or to introduce friends to Hike For A Cure.We are looking forward to another great hike – SEE YOU AT THE TOP!Ron &amp; Colleen</description>
